I fell head over heels for this floral gin cocktail that perfectly balances bright citrus notes with cooling mint and a subtle orange blossom perfume. It's my go-to showstopper drink that looks fancy but comes together in minutes—exactly what you need when you want to impress without the stress!
In a shaker, muddle the mint leaves with the orange blossom syrup and lemon juice.
¾ oz Orange Blossom Syrup, 4-5 leaves Fresh Mint, ¾ oz Lemon Juice
Add gin and ice. Shake well until very cold.
2 oz Gin, 1 cup Ice
Double strain into a coupe glass.
Garnish with a fresh mint leaf.
1 sprig Mint Leaf (garnish)
Notes
TIP: Don't skip the double straining! I learned this the hard way—nobody wants to fish little mint bits out of their teeth while trying to look sophisticated!
Orange Blossom Syrup Recipe:
Cold brew method
1 cup water
Macerate the orange blossoms with a mortar and pestle. Add flowers to a clean, sterile jar. Cover petals with cold, purified or spring water. Put a lid on the jar and let water steep for several hours or overnight. Check ever few hours to see if the water is the strength you want. It can get VERY floral and overpowering very quickly. Strain the water into a second clean jar. It should make 1 cup of orange blossom water.
1 cup orange blossom water
0.5-1 cup sugar
Combine water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the syrup to reduce a little. Make sure you stir every few minutes. For extra zest, you can add 1 tbsp Orange Zest to the jar you pour your final syrup into before allowing to cool and store.Hot Method (best when using dried orange blossoms)
1 cup water
0.5-1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh Orange Blossoms
Heat the water and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool to 160°F to 180°F/ 70°C to 80°C). Add the orange blossoms. Remove from the heat and pour into a sterile jar to steep like a tea. Taste it after an hour to see if it's at the strength you like. Drain the flowers in a cheesecloth to get rid of all the bits and pieces.
