In a shaker, muddle the basil leaves with the orange blossom syrup and lemon juice.
Add gin and ice. Shake well until chilled.
Strain into a Collins glass filled with fresh ice.
Top with soda water.

Heat the water and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool to 160°F to 180°F/ 70°C to 80°C). Add the orange blossoms. Remove from the heat and pour into a sterile jar to steep like a tea. Taste it after an hour to see if it's at the strength you like. Drain the flowers in a cheesecloth to get rid of all the bits and pieces.
