Fruits are some of the most versatile ingredients in cocktail-making — they bring sweetness, acidity, color, and complexity to every glass. Whether you’re muddling fresh berries, using tropical juices, or making an infused syrup, here’s your guide to the best fruits to use in cocktails.
I am VERY lucky to live in California, where a lot of the best fruits for cocktails can be grown, even on my little city plot. I have limes, oranges, persimmons, figs, pomegranates, tangerines, guavas, meyer lemons, finger limes, nectarines, pears (which I’m trying to grow right now), plums, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, goldenberries, and I’ve just planted haskap and gooseberries (fingers crossed!).
Yes… that’s a lot. I have more than half of these trees and plants in giant pots in my driveway. My kids think I’m crazy, but when it comes to fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs, you can’t go wrong with homegrown.

⚠️ A Note on Safety & Use
- Wash all fruits thoroughly before use.
- Organic or homegrown fruits are best, especially for peels or edible skins.
- Avoid overripe fruits for juice-based drinks; but they can work for muddling or syrups.
- Citrus oils from peels can cause bitterness if overused – go easy with twists.
